Psychological Consultation

I offer consultative services for institutions, agencies, and organizations that have experienced negative effects of traumatic events such as leadership misconduct and community violence. These services include trauma-informed, healing-centered, strength-based, and solution-focused guidance and support in the trauma recovery process at a systemic level.

I recognize that effective consultative services must be tailored to the particular characteristics of the trauma-effected organization–such as its structure, history, mission, size, and organizational culture–and tailored also to the type and intensity of the traumatic event. As such, consultation will vary organization to organization.

In general, components of the recovery process for organizational trauma include the following:

  • establishment of the organization’s perception of safety
  • assessment of the impact of trauma on the organization
  • stabilization of the organization’s functioning
  • facilitated processing of organizational members’ responses/reactions to the traumatic event
  • development of the organization’s capacity to create a future for itself, entailing a process of re-visioning and re-storying its self-identity.

Threaded throughout the elements of the recovery process are intentionally planned and carefully designed acts to facilitate grounding and reconnection. These acts involve all the members of the organization and can incorporate artistic expression, liturgy, and ritual.
